Products / operations. TCL Smart Device (Vietnam) runs TCL's flagship overseas TV manufacturing base, opened in 2019 in Binh Duong. It assembles smart TVs and related consumer-electronics display products, with an annual capacity of about 8 million units and output above 6 million sets in 2024 (roughly US$1 billion in estimated output value per company statements). Around 90% of production is exported to North America, with the balance sold locally; the plant also supplies Southeast Asian and European markets.
Patent-litigation posture. The company is an operating company appearing solely as a defendant: the tracked docket shows 1 case, 0 as plaintiff. The suit is VideoLabs, Inc. v. TCL Technology Group Corporation et al., No. 2:25-cv-00161, filed February 10, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Marshall Division) before Judge Rodney Gilstrap—a plaintiff-friendly venue. VideoLabs is a patent-assertion entity (tagged NPE by Unified Patents) that aggregates video-related patents acquired from companies such as Nokia, Panasonic, LG, Siemens, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. TCL Smart Device (Vietnam) was named alongside roughly a dozen TCL affiliates.
Notable context. The VideoLabs complaint targeted TCL smart TVs, projectors, phones, and tablets implementing H.264 video coding and related streaming technology (patents covering CAVLC/CABAC entropy coding, portable terminals, and audio/video server systems). The TCL defendants moved to dismiss in March 2025; Unified Patents lists the case as closed as of November 2025. Separately, the Vietnamese unit has also appeared as a respondent in U.S. ITC Section 337 investigations concerning smart TVs and graphics systems.
