Company overview. TCL Optoelectronics Technology (Huizhou) Co., Ltd. (Chinese: TCL光电科技(惠州)有限公司) is a Chinese electronics manufacturer headquartered in the Zhongkai High-tech Development Zone, Huizhou, Guangdong. Founded in December 2007, it is a 100%-owned subsidiary of TCL Electronics Holdings Ltd. (HKEX: 01070, formerly TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings), which is itself controlled through TCL Industries Holdings by TCL Technology Group Corp. (SZSE: 000100). Registered capital is RMB 576 million (~US$80 million); total investment in its Huizhou plant is reported at RMB 1.2 billion. Public revenue figures are not disclosed. TCL announced in 2025 that a planned transfer of the company's 100% equity had been delayed, indicating a pending divestiture/restructuring.
Products / operations. The company is an operating company — not an NPE. It was set up as TCL's LCD-TV module manufacturing arm, using large-screen LCD module technology introduced with Samsung, and is described as China's first domestically invested large-screen LCD-TV module plant. It manufactures and sells new-type display devices, color TVs and related components, chiefly 32–52-inch TFT-LCD TV modules (LCD modules / LCMs), with reported annual capacity of roughly 8 million high-definition TV modules. Its registered scope also covers contract processing, import/export, and equipment/property leasing. Business-registry records list only a small insured staff (~52), with no reliable total headcount published.
Patent-litigation posture. The company is a defendant, not an assertor: 1 tracked case, 0 as plaintiff. In VideoLabs, Inc. v. TCL Technology Group Corporation et al. (2:25-cv-00161, filed Feb. 10, 2025), it is one of 13 TCL-affiliated defendants sued in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division (Judge Gilstrap), a venue popular with plaintiffs. Unified Patents classifies plaintiff VideoLabs as an NPE/patent assertion entity. The case was terminated in November 2025 after the TCL defendants moved to dismiss.
Case context. The complaint targeted TCL smart TVs, projectors, phones and tablets supporting the H.264 video standard and the TCLtv+ streaming service, asserting patents on video coding (CAVLC/CABAC entropy coding) and related technology. VideoLabs is a well-documented patent-monetization firm (led by Joe Chernesky and Bill Goldman) that acquires portfolios from operating companies and litigates with litigation financing; it has also sued Dell, Amazon, Netflix, Meta, HP, Hisense and Motorola. As a TV-module supplier in the TCL chain, this entity appears to have been swept into the suit alongside its ultimate parent group.
