What we collect, and why

IHatePatentTrolls (ihatepatenttrolls.com) is operated by TheDataProject.AI, 131 Continental Drive, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713. This page describes what data the site collects and how it’s used — in plain English, matching what the site actually does. There are no user accounts, and we do not sell personal data.

Usage analytics

Like most sites, we log page views to understand what’s being read. For each view we record the page path, query string, referring page, browser/OS/device family (from your user-agent string), your IP address, an approximate location (country and city, derived from your IP by our hosting provider), and a random session identifier stored in a first-party cookie so consecutive views can be grouped into a visit. This data lives in our own store, is used only in aggregate (traffic dashboards), and is capped — old events are discarded as new ones arrive. Automated crawler traffic is logged the same way, separately.

Cookies

• Session cookie (first-party). A random identifier used to group your page views into a visit for the analytics above. It identifies a browser session, not you.
• Human-verification cookie (first-party). Visitors outside the US may be asked to complete a one-click check; a signed cookie remembers that you passed it for about a week.
• Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies to measure traffic. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Google AdSense. The site shows ads served by Google. Google and its partners may set cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized ads at Google Ads Settings or via aboutads.info.

Watchlist emails

If you subscribe to alerts for a patent or plaintiff, we store your email address together with what you’re watching, and use it for exactly one thing: sending those alerts. Every alert email contains an unsubscribe link that works without a login; we never ask for a password. Unsubscribing removes the subscription.

Demand-letter analyzer

Text you paste into the demand-letter analyzer is stored privately so your analysis page keeps working, and it is not indexed by search engines. To produce the analysis, the text is processed by our AI providers (Anthropic and/or Google). Don’t paste anything you aren’t comfortable submitting — you can redact names and account numbers first; the analysis works fine without them.

Service providers

The site runs on Vercel (hosting, network logs, and automated bot detection), stores data with Upstash, and uses Anthropic and Google as AI providers for generated analyses. Each processes data on our behalf to run the site.

Public records

The site’s content — litigation records, PTAB proceedings, patent data, and the names of parties, attorneys, and correspondents that appear in them — comes from public government records (federal court dockets via PACER/RECAP and CourtListener, and the USPTO). Publishing public records is not subject to removal on privacy grounds, but if you believe a record is inaccurate, contact us and we’ll review it against the source.

Your choices

• Block or clear cookies in your browser — the site works without them.
• Opt out of personalized ads via the Google links above.
• Unsubscribe from watchlist emails via any alert’s footer link.
• Email info@thedataproject.ai to ask what we hold about you or to request deletion (e.g. a watchlist address or submitted demand-letter text).

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
