Ledvance, LLC

Company overview. Ledvance, LLC is the U.S. operating entity of Ledvance GmbH, a German lighting company founded in July 2016 as a spin-off of OSRAM Licht AG's general lighting business. Ledvance GmbH is headquartered in Garching bei München, Germany, and has been wholly owned by the Chinese LED-packaging maker MLS Co., Ltd. since 2018. Ledvance, LLC maintains its North American headquarters in Wilmington, Massachusetts, and also has a Versailles, Kentucky facility. The parent company reports roughly €2 billion in annual revenue and about 9,000 employees (company website); Wikipedia cites €1.35 billion revenue (2023) and about 2,685 employees.

Products / operations. Ledvance manufactures and distributes general lighting: LED lamps, traditional light sources, standardized luminaires, and connected smart-home/smart-building lighting systems. Brands include LEDVANCE, SYLVANIA (North America), and OSRAM (under license in Europe), plus a newer "Ledvance Renewables" line of photovoltaic modules, inverters, and battery storage. Products are sold through wholesale, retail, and online channels in over 120 countries.

Patent-litigation posture. Ledvance is an operating company with a small two-way docket (one case as defendant, one as plaintiff). In February 2024, Feit Electric sued Ledvance in the Eastern District of Kentucky (Lexington Division) for infringement of U.S. Patent No. 8,604,678, covering white LED filament technology, targeting imported SYLVANIA-branded bulbs. The venue reflects Ledvance's Kentucky facility, not a typical plaintiff-friendly NPE forum.

Notable context. In August 2024, Ledvance joined Savant Technologies (GE Lighting), Elong International, and Xiamen Longstar as co-petitioners in IPR2024-01357 challenging the same Feit patent at the PTAB. The Board instituted review in March 2025, and the Kentucky district-court action was stayed in April 2025 pending a final IPR decision. The dispute centers on decorative LED filament lamps' off-state appearance — a product-technology dispute among competing lighting manufacturers, not an NPE assertion.
