HTC Corporation (Chinese: 宏達國際電子股份有限公司; historically "High Tech Computer Corporation"), commonly known as HTC, is a Taiwanese consumer-electronics manufacturer headquartered in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Founded in 1997, it has been listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE: 2498) since 2002 and has no parent company. It is now a small-cap company: FY2024 consolidated revenue was NT$3.08 billion (roughly US$93 million) with a net loss of NT$3.42 billion, per its own results release. Reported headcount varies by source and date (roughly 1,500–3,900 depending on the filing or data vendor), reflecting heavy contraction from its smartphone peak.
Operations. HTC designs, manufactures, and sells smart mobile devices and immersive hardware. Its principal product lines are the VIVE virtual-reality headset platform (including enterprise "Vive Business" solutions), the VIVERSE metaverse/XR software ecosystem, the Viveport content platform, smartphones, and adjacent devices such as blockchain phones and wearables. VR/XR and smart mobile devices account for the bulk of revenue; the company also licenses technology.
Litigation posture. HTC is an operating company, not a patent assertion entity. Across the three tracked cases it appears twice as a defendant and once as plaintiff. One defense is against a well-known non-practicing entity and one against a large operating competitor; its single plaintiff-side case is a declaratory-judgment action seeking to invalidate patents it was being accused of infringing, not an offensive assertion campaign. HTC Corp. v. Technology Properties Ltd. and the related TPL v. HTC (N.D. Cal.) pitted HTC against TPL/Alliacense/Patriot Scientific over the "Moore Microprocessor Portfolio." HTC won summary judgment on one patent, but a jury found infringement of the '336 microprocessor-clock patent and awarded TPL about $1 million in October 2013.
