Company profile

Company overview. Xactware Solutions, Inc. ("Xactware") is a property-claims and estimating software developer founded in 1986 by Jim Loveland in Utah. It is headquartered in Lehi, Utah (1100 West Traverse Parkway), and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Verisk Analytics, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSK), which acquired it in 2006. Verisk retired the Xactware brand in January 2022, and the business now operates as Verisk Property Estimating Solutions. PitchBook lists roughly 230 employees (as of the 2006 acquisition); Xactware does not disclose standalone revenue — it is reported within Verisk's consolidated financials.

Products / operations. Xactware builds estimating and claims-management software for property insurers, independent adjusters, and restoration and remodeling contractors. Its flagship product, Xactimate, produces repair-cost estimates using pricing researched across 460+ U.S./Canadian markets; adjacent offerings include the XactAnalysis claims network, XactContents, 360Value valuations, and aerial-imagery-based roof and property measurement tools (e.g., Aerial Sketch and Geomni products) that were at the center of its patent dispute. It has offered cloud services since 1995 and says it processes hundreds of thousands of estimates daily.

Patent-litigation posture. Xactware is an operating company, not an NPE, and its two tracked cases are two sides of a single competitor fight with Eagle View Technologies, Inc. and its affiliate Pictometry International Corp. Xactware appears as defendant in Eagle View Technologies, Inc. et al. v. Xactware Solutions, Inc. et al. (filed Sept. 23, 2015, D.N.J.), where EagleView/Pictometry alleged infringement of aerial-roof-estimation patents by Xactware's measurement products. Its single plaintiff matter is Xactware Solutions, Inc. v. Eagle View Technologies, Inc. (PTAB, Feb. 2016) — inter partes review petitions Xactware filed to invalidate the same EagleView/Pictometry patents, a defensive counter-move rather than offensive monetization. Venue was the District of New Jersey, where Verisk is based — not a plaintiff-friendly outlier forum.

Notable context. Xactware filed roughly 14 IPR petitions covering nine EagleView patents; most were denied or the challenged claims upheld, and in September 2019 a New Jersey jury awarded EagleView $125 million for willful infringement (EagleView press release; Kirkland & Ellis/Law360). The fight followed Verisk's abandoned ~$650 million acquisition of EagleView in 2014, which the FTC had challenged.

Related district litigation that generated the Xactware/Verisk IPR campaign against the '737 patent. The '737 patent was not among the five patents tried to the jury in 2019; the jury returned a $125M willful-infringement verdict on the trial patents.
