Company profile

Company overview. Verisk Analytics, Inc. (commonly "Verisk") is a publicly traded data, analytics, and technology company headquartered at 545 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City, New Jersey. Its roots trace to the Insurance Services Office (ISO), a nonprofit property/casualty insurance advisory group founded in 1971; ISO's parent was reorganized as for-profit Verisk Analytics in 2008 and completed its IPO on Nasdaq in October 2009 (ticker: VRSK). Public sources report roughly 8,000 employees, revenue of about $3.1 billion (fiscal 2025), and a market value around $26 billion (Fortune, MarketWatch, Morningstar).

Products / services / operations. Verisk provides data, predictive analytics, and decision-support software to the insurance industry, with most revenue from U.S. property/casualty insurers. Offerings span underwriting and rating (policy forms, rules, loss costs), claims (property repair estimates, antifraud tools), and catastrophe and weather-risk modeling. Its wholly owned subsidiary Xactware Solutions, acquired in 2014, sells property-estimating software such as Xactimate, used by insurers and restoration contractors; Verisk also developed aerial-imagery-based property data products (e.g., Roof InSight, Property InSight, Geomni).

Patent-litigation posture. Verisk is an operating company, not a non-practicing entity: its single tracked case is as a defendant (0 plaintiff cases, 1 defendant case). The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey — Verisk's home district, not a plaintiff-friendly venue like the Eastern District of Texas.

Notable case. In Eagle View Technologies, Inc. et al. v. Xactware Solutions, Inc. et al. (filed September 23, 2015, D.N.J.), aerial-imagery firm EagleView and its affiliate Pictometry accused Xactware and Verisk of willfully infringing patents covering aerial roof-estimation systems used to generate repair-cost estimates. In September 2019 a jury found willful infringement and awarded $125 million in damages; the court later issued a permanent injunction covering certain Verisk/Xactware products. Context: Verisk had earlier sought to acquire EagleView for $650 million but abandoned the deal in 2014 after an FTC antitrust challenge (Carrier Management, EagleView press releases).

Related district litigation that generated the Xactware/Verisk IPR campaign against the '737 patent. The '737 patent was not among the five patents tried to the jury in 2019; the jury returned a $125M willful-infringement verdict on the trial patents.
