Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc.

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) is the North American electronic components and storage business of Japan's Toshiba group. Established in 1989, it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toshiba America, Inc., itself a subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo). Its headquarters is now listed at 2610 Orchard Parkway, San Jose, California, after years at Irvine, California. A Toshiba corporate fact sheet put TAEC at roughly 400 employees across 14 U.S. locations plus Brazil; current headcount is not separately disclosed. Toshiba Corporation was taken private in a ~$14 billion buyout led by Japan Industrial Partners and delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 2023.

TAEC's portfolio spans semiconductors and storage: microcontrollers, ASICs/ASSPs and custom SoC, power semiconductors (MOSFETs, IGBTs, bipolar transistors, diodes), analog and linear ICs, optocouplers and photorelays, RF/microwave GaAs and GaN devices, image sensors, NAND flash memory, and enterprise and consumer HDDs. Customers are OEMs, ODMs, contract manufacturers and distributors in automotive, industrial, mobile, networking and medical markets. Toshiba's memory business was later spun off as Kioxia, and the semiconductor operations were reorganized under Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation.

TAEC's litigation posture is that of an operating company: in the tracked data it appears once, as a defendant and never as plaintiff — a one-way defensive profile consistent with a large manufacturer being targeted rather than asserting patents.

The single tracked case is Collabo Innovations, Inc. v. Toshiba Corporation et al., filed 2015-07-16 in the District of Delaware (1:15-cv-00608), which also named Toshiba America, Inc. and TAEC. Collabo Innovations was a WiLAN subsidiary asserting image-sensing patents WiLAN acquired from Panasonic in 2013, accusing Toshiba CMOS image sensors. WiLAN announced in December 2015 that Collabo had licensed Toshiba and resolved the Delaware litigation. The venue was Delaware, not the Eastern District of Texas.
