Huawei — Company Profile
Overview. Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei") is a Chinese multinational technology company founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei and headquartered in Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong. It is privately held and employee-owned, with no publicly traded equity or ticker. Huawei reported 2024 revenue of CNY 862.1 billion (roughly US$118 billion) and net profit of CNY 62.6 billion, and states approximately 208,000 employees across operations in more than 170 countries. It invests heavily in R&D (CNY 179.7 billion, about 20.8% of 2024 revenue).
Products / operations. Huawei is an operating company with broad product lines: ICT infrastructure (5G/5.5G carrier network equipment, optical transport, data-center switching and routing), consumer devices (Mate and P-series/nova smartphones, the Mate XT tri-fold, wearables, tablets, PCs), Huawei Cloud, digital power (solar inverters and grid-scale energy storage), and the Intelligent Automotive Solution business supplying smart-cockpit and intelligent-driving systems to automakers. Its HiSilicon unit designs processors and connectivity chips, and it develops HarmonyOS. It is not a non-practicing entity.
Litigation posture. In this database Huawei appears in only one tracked case, as a defendant — zero as plaintiff — which reflects the database's narrow scope rather than Huawei's overall posture. In practice Huawei is a large patent holder and a frequent two-way litigant globally (both asserting its portfolio and defending against others'), but no such appearances are recorded here.
Notable case. Innovative Display Technologies LLC v. Dell Inc. et al., No. 2:13-cv-00525 (E.D. Tex., Marshall Division, filed June 28, 2013). The plaintiff is a Texas-based patent-licensing entity (NPE) asserting seven "Light Emitting Panel Assemblies" patents (e.g., U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,755,547 and 7,404,660) covering LED backlight/display-panel technology. Huawei Investment & Holding Co., Ltd. was named alongside Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Acer, BlackBerry and ZTE, targeting display and notebook products. The venue — the Eastern District of Texas, a historically plaintiff-friendly district — typifies NPE assertion campaigns of that era.
