Company overview. Delphi Automotive PLC was a Jersey-registered public limited company (formed May 19, 2011) headquartered in Gillingham, Kent, United Kingdom, listed on the NYSE under "DLPH." It traces to General Motors' components operations, spun off in 1999, and was created to hold the assets reorganized out of Delphi's 2005–2009 bankruptcy; it completed its IPO on November 22, 2011. Per its 2013 Form 10-K, it reported about 160,000 employees, net sales of $16.46 billion (2013), roughly 19,000 engineers and technicians, and 126 manufacturing facilities and 15 technical centers across 32 countries. It is an operating company, not an NPE.
Products / operations. Delphi supplied automotive and commercial-vehicle OEMs through four segments: Electrical/Electronic Architecture (wiring harnesses and cable assemblies, connectors, electrical centers, high-voltage distribution); Powertrain Systems (gasoline/diesel engine management, fuel injection, combustion and electronic controls, plus aftermarket); Electronics and Safety (active/passive safety electronics, body controls, infotainment and connectivity, displays, mechatronics); and Thermal Systems (HVAC and powertrain cooling/heat exchangers).
Patent-litigation posture. The tracked data shows zero plaintiff cases and one defendant case — the profile of an operating company being sued, not one asserting. The sole matter is a USITC Section 337 investigation, an import-exclusion forum, not a district court; there is no Eastern District of Texas clustering.
Notable case. Macronix International Co., Ltd. et al. v. Spansion, Inc. et al. (complaint dated December 27, 2013) was an ITC action in which Macronix asserted non-volatile/flash-memory patents against Spansion; Delphi was named as a downstream-customer respondent alongside Harman, Beats Electronics, Ruckus Wireless and Tellabs — pulled in as a purchaser of accused memory chips, not the primary target. Macronix also litigated against Spansion in district court (E.D. Virginia, with parallel Northern District of California actions).
Later context. In December 2017 Delphi Automotive PLC renamed itself Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) and spun off its powertrain/aftermarket business as Delphi Technologies PLC (NYSE: DLPH); Aptiv later relocated its headquarters to Dublin (2018) and Switzerland (2025). "Delphi Automotive PLC" no longer exists under that name.
