Company profile

DISH Technologies L.L.C. is a technology-focused subsidiary of DISH Network, which is wholly owned by EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) following a merger completed on December 31, 2023. EchoStar, a global telecommunications company, is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado. For the full year 2024, DISH Network reported revenue of $14.3 billion. EchoStar has over 12,000 employees.

DISH Technologies serves as the research and development arm for its parent company's extensive operations. EchoStar operates a diverse portfolio of consumer and enterprise services, including the DISH TV direct broadcast satellite service, the Sling TV over-the-top streaming service, the Boost Mobile wireless carrier, and HughesNet satellite internet services. DISH Technologies develops the underlying hardware and software, including streaming video technology and digital set-top boxes, that support these various brands.

Despite being the technology engine of a large operating company, DISH Technologies L.L.C. has an entirely assertive patent litigation posture in the tracked cases. It has appeared as a plaintiff in all six of its tracked lawsuits and as a defendant in none. These cases have been filed in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Delaware, the Southern District of New York, and the District of Utah. This plaintiff-only record indicates a strategy of actively enforcing its patent portfolio.

The company's patent assertion campaign appears focused on streaming media technology. The defendants in its recent lawsuits are competitors in the video streaming market, including live TV streaming service fuboTV, on-demand service BritBox LLC, and family-focused streaming platform owner A Parent Media Co. Inc. This pattern suggests a strategic effort to license or enforce patents related to the technologies that power modern streaming video services.
