Andrew V. Trask

Andrew V. Trask is a patent litigation attorney at Williams & Connolly LLP, focusing on intellectual property and technology disputes. His practice frequently involves pharmaceutical and biotech patent litigation, notably representing Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in matters related to its Eylea® product. With a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Cambridge and prior experience as a pharmaceutical scientist at Pfizer, Dr. Trask leverages a strong technical background in cases involving complex scientific subject matter. His experience extends to other technology areas, including mobile apps and hardware, search and video algorithms, wearable devices, and various medical technologies.

Dr. Trask primarily represents plaintiffs in patent disputes, with five of his six tracked appearances on the plaintiff side, all on behalf of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He has played a significant role in litigation aimed at protecting Regeneron's Eylea® against biosimilar competitors, including actions against Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., Formycon AG, Celltrion, Inc., and Sandoz Inc. A notable outcome includes the Federal Circuit's January 2025 affirmance of a district court's preliminary injunction granted to Regeneron against Formycon AG.

His practice also includes appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and post-grant patent disputes before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Dr. Trask has represented clients in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings and contributed to discussions on the intersection of PTAB and life sciences as a panelist at the USPTO in March 2026. Before rejoining Williams & Connolly, where he became a partner in 2021, he served as in-house litigation counsel at Google and as a law clerk to the Honorable Alan D. Lourie of the Federal Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Fordham Law School, graduating magna cum laude, and holds a B.S. in chemistry from the College of William and Mary.
