It was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Seoul (Seocho-gu), with a small U.S. office in Ashburn, Virginia. Public directory data (Salary.com) pegs the U.S. entity at roughly 11–20 employees and $1M–$5M in revenue; the company is not publicly traded. Its leadership team is drawn from LG Electronics' IP center, Intellectual Ventures, MPEG LA, Samsung, Nokia, and IBM.
Products / services / operations. Ideahub does not sell products; it operates as an intellectual-property "hub" that acquires and licenses patents sourced from companies, research institutes, and universities. Per its own materials and Via Licensing Alliance, it runs a dozen-plus licensing programs covering more than 5,000 patents and has licensed to 200+ licensees. Its portfolio concentrates on video coding and streaming — roughly 27–91 US patents (depending on source), primarily in H04N (video encoding/decoding), including patents acquired from Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). The tracked case is Unified's ex parte reexamination of US Patent 10,212,422, a video quantization-parameter patent designated essential to the VVC standard in Access Advance's pool; a related patent was asserted in Europe. Ideahub appealed the PTAB's Final Written Decision in PGR2022-00044. The Federal Circuit affirmed in a nonprecedential Rule 36 judgment on April 10, 2026.
