Company profile

Ascendis Pharma A/S (Nasdaq: ASND; commonly "Ascendis") is a Danish biopharmaceutical company founded in 2006 and headquartered at Tuborg Boulevard 12, Hellerup, Denmark, with U.S. operations through its Palo Alto, California-based subsidiary Ascendis Pharma, Inc. (which the ITC docket reflects was later renamed Ascendis Pharma, LLC). It is publicly traded on Nasdaq and is not a subsidiary of another company. Headcount is in the roughly 1,100–1,400 range across recent third-party and filing data, and the company reported about €720 million in total revenue for full-year 2025.

Ascendis develops rare-disease endocrinology and oncology therapies using its TransCon prodrug/transient-conjugation platform, which extends the half-life of peptides and proteins. Commercial products include SKYTROFA (lonapegsomatropin, TransCon hGH) for pediatric and adult growth hormone deficiency; YORVIPATH (palopegteriparatide, TransCon PTH) for hypoparathyroidism; and YUVIWEL (navepegritide, TransCon CNP), approved by the FDA in February 2026 for achondroplasia, with an EU filing under review. Pipeline work includes a TransCon CNP plus hGH combination.

On patent-litigation posture, Ascendis is an operating company, not a non-practicing entity: it appears once as plaintiff and once as defendant, and both tracked matters arise from a single two-way commercial dispute over C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) technology rather than from portfolio monetization. One case was filed by Ascendis as a declaratory-judgment action against BioMarin Pharmaceutical in the Northern District of California; the other is BioMarin's Section 337 complaint against Ascendis at the U.S. International Trade Commission. Neither is an Eastern District of Texas-style NPE assertion.

The ITC case, BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. v. Ascendis Pharma, Inc. et al. (Inv. No. 337-TA-1447, instituted May 8, 2025), alleged infringement of reissue patent RE48,267 on CNP variants and named Ascendis entities plus suppliers Wacker Biotech and Bachem. The parallel N.D. Cal. case, Ascendis Pharma A/S et al. v. BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., sought a declaration of non-infringement. On August 31, 2026, the companies announced a global settlement: a non-exclusive license for Ascendis and royalties to BioMarin of 20% of U.S. net sales and 18% in the EU, South Korea and Brazil through May 20, 2030, with all proceedings dismissed.
