Company overview. Allesee Orthodontic Appliances, Inc. ("AOA," also branded AOA Lab or AOA/Pro) is a custom orthodontic laboratory at 13931 Spring Street, Sturtevant, Wisconsin. Third-party business databases list a 1984 founding date and estimate roughly 50–200 employees and $10–25M revenue; those figures are unverified estimates, not company-confirmed disclosures. AOA is a subsidiary of Ormco Corporation, which sits within Envista Holdings Corporation (NYSE: NVST), the dental platform Danaher spun off in September 2019. The earlier ownership chain ran AOA → Ormco → Sybron Dental Specialties → Danaher.
Products / operations. AOA is an operating company, not an NPE. It is a full-service custom orthodontic laboratory that fabricates appliances from a clinician's plaster models or digital scans and sells through Ormco's global sales force. Documented offerings include Herbst bite-jumping and AdvanSync functional appliances, distalizing appliances, lingual indirect bonding, retainers and positioners, and the Red, White & Blue three-stage clear retainer system, cleared under FDA 510(k) K040874. AOA also scans plaster models into STL files for digital workflows and holds ISO 13485 certification covering design, manufacture, packaging and distribution of orthodontic appliance systems.
Patent-litigation posture. All three tracked appearances are one commercial dispute with Align Technology, the Invisalign maker: one as defendant and two as plaintiff/cross-appellee on appeal. That 2-1 split reflects a two-way operating-company fight — AOA and parent Ormco asserted patents against a direct competitor while also being sued by it — not patent-assertion-entity activity. The district case was filed in the Central District of California, Orange County Division, not a plaintiff-friendly NPE venue.
Notable cases. In Align Technology, Inc. v. Ormco Corp. et al. (C.D. Cal., filed Jan. 6, 2003), Align accused Ormco and AOA of infringement; Ormco and AOA counterclaimed on their own patents, with AOA's Red, White & Blue system among the accused products. The court entered a permanent injunction on May 26, 2005; AOA and Ormco appealed to the Federal Circuit on May 31, 2005 (Ormco Corp. et al. v. Align Technology, Inc.).
