Apple asserted US 7,663,607 against Samsung, but withdrew it in July 2012 before trial. The case was tried on other Apple patents, including the '381 bounce-back, '915 multi-touch/pinch-to-zoom, and '163 double-tap-to-zoom patents, and resulted in a jury verdict and subsequent appeals.

Apple asserted the '915 patent and other Apple patents against HTC in the District of Delaware. The court stayed the case pending ITC Investigation No. 337-TA-797 under 28 U.S.C. § 1659. It was later dismissed following the global Apple–HTC settlement.

Samsung's appeal from the district court's partial final judgment of about $548 million, of which about $149 million related to three utility patents including the '915 patent. The Federal Circuit summarily denied the appeal; rehearing en banc was denied Nov. 19, 2015. Samsung paid the '915 damages in December 2015.

Supreme Court review of design-patent damages (article of manufacture / § 289 total profit) arising from the Apple v. Samsung litigation that included '915 damages. Decided Dec. 6, 2016; judgment vacated in part and remanded as to design-patent damages only. Samsung did not petition for certiorari on any '915 issue, so the '915 liability/damages findings were unaffected.
