Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC ("STA," also marketed as "Samsung Mobile") was a Delaware-registered, wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (KRX: 005930). Headquartered at 1301 E. Lookout Drive, Richardson, Texas, with additional facilities in Plano, it was founded in 1992 and functioned as Samsung's North American telecommunications arm. Its Dallas Technology Labs unit led standardization work in IEEE, ITU, 3GPP and WiMAX forums. No standalone revenue, headcount, or market-cap figures for STA are published, as it was consolidated within Samsung Electronics.
Operations. STA researched, developed and marketed wireless handsets, wireless infrastructure systems, and other telecommunications products throughout North America, and per third-party profiles also sold analog/digital key phone systems and printers. Its infrastructure work included Sprint Nextel's WiMAX network buildouts in New York and other markets, and it held FCC equipment authorizations for indoor base transceiver station models.
Corporate status. Effective January 1, 2015, STA merged into Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA), with SEA as the surviving entity; Samsung stated STA "no longer exists as a separate corporate entity." The combined U.S. organization was headquartered in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, while retaining operations in Richardson. STA therefore appears in litigation records only for conduct predating or shortly following that merger.
Litigation posture. The tracked data show one case, with STA as defendant and none as plaintiff — the profile of an operating company being sued, not an NPE. That case is Raytheon Company v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al., filed March 6, 2015 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division (No. 2:15-cv-00341), a plaintiff-friendly patent venue where Samsung already had a large presence. STA was named alongside Samsung Electronics Co., Samsung Electronics America, and Samsung Semiconductor; the action was consolidated with parallel claims against Sony, Apple, and OmniVision entities, was stayed pending inter partes review, and was dismissed by joint motion on June 8, 2018. No further tracked cases involve STA.
