Company profile

Company overview. Xilinx, Inc. (captioned "Xilinx Incorporated" in the case) is a fabless semiconductor company founded in 1984 in Silicon Valley and headquartered in San Jose, California. It was publicly traded on Nasdaq (XLNX) from 1990 until February 14, 2022, when AMD completed an all-stock acquisition (announced at ~$35 billion, valued at ~$49 billion at close); Xilinx now operates as AMD's Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group. At acquisition it had roughly 4,400–4,900 employees worldwide and about $3.1 billion in annual revenue (FY2019).

Products / operations. Xilinx invented the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and pioneered the fabless manufacturing model. Its product lines include FPGA families (Virtex, Kintex, Artix, Spartan), Zynq ARM-based SoCs, UltraScale/UltraScale+ platforms, RFSoCs, Versal adaptive compute acceleration platforms, Alveo data-center accelerator cards, and the Vivado design tool suite and IP cores. End markets span data center, communications/5G, automotive, aerospace/defense, industrial, and broadcast.

Patent-litigation posture. Xilinx is an operating company that appears in the database only as a defendant (0 plaintiff cases, 1 defendant case), defending against a patent-assertion suit. The single tracked matter, Sentient Sensors, LLC v. Xilinx Incorporated (D. Delaware, filed February 8, 2022), was brought by Sentient Sensors, LLC, a non-practicing entity whose sole real party in interest is Management Sciences Inc.; it asserts U.S. Patent 6,938,177 ("Multi-Chip Module Smart Controller"), which originated from Air Force-funded research. The case is in Delaware, not a plaintiff-friendly Texas venue.

Notable context. Xilinx countersued administratively via inter partes review (IPR2023-00195), and in September 2024 the PTAB found the asserted claims invalid as obvious; in April 2026 the Federal Circuit declined to revive the claims, ending the litigation. The suit post-dates the AMD acquisition, and AMD, Xilinx, and ATI Technologies were appellees on appeal. No other tracked patent litigation involves Xilinx.
