Company profile

Company overview. Sunshine Lake Pharma Co., Ltd. (广东东阳光药业股份有限公司; listed as "Sunshine Lake Pharma" / 东阳光药, SEHK: 6887) is a Chinese pharmaceutical company headquartered at HEC Scientific Park in Dongguan, Guangdong, with an office in Shenzhen's Nanshan District. Founded in 2001 (incorporated December 2003), it is a controlled subsidiary of Shenzhen HEC Industrial Development Co., Ltd., part of the diversified HEC Group (which also controls A-share listed HEC, 600676.SH). It listed on the HKEX Main Board by way of introduction on August 7, 2025, following an absorption merger with former HEC ChangJiang Pharmaceutical. Public sources report roughly 6,300–6,600 employees, revenue of about HK$5.2–5.6 billion, and a market cap of roughly HK$21 billion.

Products / operations. Sunshine Lake Pharma researches, develops, manufactures, and sells small-molecule innovative drugs, generics, and biosimilars, focused on infectious disease, chronic disease, and oncology. Commercial products include Kewei (oseltamivir phosphate) for influenza, Dongweien (emitasvir phosphate) and Dongyinghe for hepatitis C, generic antibiotics (clarithromycin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin), and chronic-disease generics including insulin products. Its Dongguan plant manufactures oral dosage forms for U.S. and EU markets, including the generic fingolimod capsules sold in the U.S. via affiliated distributors.

Patent-litigation posture. Sunshine Lake is an operating company, not an NPE. Its sole tracked U.S. case is as defendant: Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation v. HEC Pharm Co., Ltd. et al. (D. Del., filed January 28, 2020; No. 1:20-cv-00133), a Hatch-Waxman ANDA suit in which Sunshine Lake was a co-defendant with HEC Pharm, HEC Pharm USA, Canda HEC 1 LLC, and Rising Pharma Holdings. It has no plaintiff-side cases; the District of Delaware venue reflects brand-vs-generic ANDA practice rather than NPE forum shopping.

Notable context. The suit concerned generic Gilenya® (fingolimod) for multiple sclerosis and patents U.S. 9,187,405 and 10,543,179. The Delaware court upheld the '405 patent and enjoined the generic until December 2027, but the Federal Circuit reversed in June 2022, finding the patent invalid; HEC materials state Sunshine Lake–manufactured fingolimod capsules reached the U.S. market in October 2022 — described as the first successful challenge by a Chinese enterprise to an originator drug patent in the U.S.
