The company is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with additional offices in the UK, Ireland, and India. Quark is owned by private equity firm Parallax Capital Partners, which acquired it in 2017. Prior to that, it was owned by Platinum Equity. While a recent estimate of U.S.-based employees is small, the company's total employee count was listed as 596 in 2021.

Quark specializes in software for content lifecycle management, content automation, and graphic design. The company's flagship and best-known product is QuarkXPress, a desktop publishing application first released in 1987 that allows creative professionals to design and lay out materials for print and digital media.
