Company profile

Company overview. Genius Sports Ltd. (NYSE: GENI) is a publicly traded sports data and technology company headquartered at 27 Soho Square, London, and incorporated in Guernsey. Founded in 2000–2001 by CEO Mark Locke as Betgenius, it rebranded as Genius Sports in 2018 and listed on the NYSE in April 2021 via a SPAC merger with dMY Technology Group II. It employs roughly 2,700 people; FY2025 revenue was about $669 million (trailing-twelve-month revenue ~$713 million), with a market cap in the roughly $1–2 billion range. It is a real operating company, not a patent-assertion entity.

Products / services. Genius Sports is an official data, technology, and broadcast partner to sports leagues, sportsbooks, and media companies, operating in three segments: Sports Technology and Services (live data capture, streaming, integrity and match-monitoring services); Betting Technology, Content, and Services (official data feeds, pre-game/in-game odds, trading/risk management, and the BetVision watch-and-bet streaming product); and Media Technology, Content, and Services (the FanHub advertising platform and fan-engagement tools). Customers include the NFL, English Premier League, NBA, MLB, DraftKings, FanDuel, and bet365.

Patent-litigation posture. Genius Sports is a two-way litigant in a single dispute with SportsCastr Inc. (d/b/a PANDA Interactive). It appears as defendant in SportsCastr Inc. v. Genius Sports Ltd. et al. (E.D. Tex., Marshall Division, filed October 2023), where SportsCastr alleges infringement of its patents covering low-latency interactive sports-streaming and in-stream betting technology, targeting products including BetVision, LiveData, and Genius Trading Services. It appears as plaintiff in Genius Sports Ltd. v. SportsCastr Inc. at the PTAB (filed August 2024), where Genius filed inter partes review petitions challenging the same SportsCastr patents.

Notable context. The E.D. Tex. suit was filed in parallel with SportsCastr's companion case against Sportradar (2:23-cv-00472), and SportsCastr later amended to add antitrust claims alleging Genius ties access to exclusive league data to its betting technology. Genius filed six IPR petitions covering the four asserted patents. The tracked cases cluster in the Eastern District of Texas, a plaintiff-friendly patent venue. Public dockets also show a related May 2026 infringement suit by Genius subsidiary Genius Sports SS, LLC against SportsCastr in the Southern District of New York, outside the tracked case list.
