Company overview. Canon Solutions America, Inc. ("Canon Solutions America" or CSAI) is a New York corporation headquartered at One Canon Park, Melville, NY. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon Inc. (Japan; NYSE: CAJ, TSE: 7751). CSAI was formed in 2013 through the consolidation of Canon U.S.A.'s business-solutions operations and sells and services Canon products nationwide. Third-party estimates of its size vary widely (roughly 4,000–10,000 employees and $0.9B–$3.7B revenue by different trackers); official figures are not published separately from Canon Inc., whose global revenue was about $30.4B in 2020.
Products / services / operations. CSAI is an operating company and the U.S. sales, service, and distribution arm for Canon and Océ office, production, and wide-format printing. Its lines include office multifunction and printing systems, high-volume continuous-feed and production digital presses, large-format systems, software solutions, and supplies (media, ink, toner), plus managed print services, professional services, and cybersecurity offerings for enterprise customers.
Patent-litigation posture. CSAI is a pure defendant: the tracked database shows 1 case as defendant and 0 as plaintiff, consistent with an operating company defending against an assertion. The sole tracked case was filed by Flexiworld Technologies, Inc., a patent-assertion entity, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Waco Division — a venue known for plaintiff-friendly patent dockets (Judge Alan D. Albright).
Notable case. In Flexiworld Technologies, Inc. v. Canon, Inc. et al. (No. 6:21-cv-00143, filed Feb. 11, 2021), Flexiworld accused Canon Inc. and CSAI of infringing five patents on wireless printing (U.S. Patent Nos. 9,036,181; 10,140,071; 10,481,846; 10,642,576; and 10,761,791) through Canon's imageCLASS and imageRUNNER wireless printers and the Canon PRINT app. Flexiworld, founded by William Ho Chang, has pursued similar suits against other device makers. The action was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in August 2021.
