Seth W. Bruneel

Seth W. Bruneel is an intellectual property litigator at Mayer Brown, focusing his practice on high-technology patent disputes. His experience spans technologies such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, televisions, display screens, wireless charging, augmented and virtual reality, and smart home devices. Bruneel's practice includes representing clients in U.S. district courts, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the International Trade Commission (ITC), and in Amazon's Patent Evaluation Express program.

Bruneel primarily represents patent owners and complainants, as evidenced by his involvement in securing a $111.7 million jury verdict for Maxell Ltd. against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. in the Eastern District of Texas for willful infringement of smart device patents. He also advises clients in ITC Section 337 actions, including successfully representing respondents by providing technical advice and legal acumen in claim construction briefing and oral argument for Certain Automated Retractable Vehicle Steps and Components Thereof (337-TA-1345). Other notable ITC engagements include representing complainants in Certain Smart Thermostat Hubs (337-TA-1339) and Certain Smart Televisions (337-TA-1338), both of which settled favorably.
