Saqib J. Siddiqui

Saqib J. Siddiqui is a seasoned patent litigator at Mayer Brown, focusing on complex technology disputes in district courts, the US International Trade Commission (ITC), and the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His practice encompasses a broad range of technology areas, with a significant concentration in smartphone technologies, including standard essential patents (SEPs), Wi-Fi, LTE, 4G, 5G, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, power management, user interfaces, image sensors, image processing, and biometric authentication. He also has experience with wireless transmissions by smart meters, loyalty conversion programs, microprocessors, and web browser advertising technology.

While Mr. Siddiqui's tracked appearances show a majority on the defendant side (6 of 9), his practice demonstrates a balanced approach, representing both patent owners in enforcement actions and defendants against infringement claims and patent challenges. Notably, he served as patent owner attorney for Maxell, Ltd., securing a significant $111.7 million jury verdict against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. for willful infringement of smart device patents, which included technologies for unlocking devices, locating recordings, and managing digital data. He was also part of the Mayer Brown team that obtained a $43.3 million jury verdict for Maxell against ZTE USA for infringement of various smartphone patents, a case that later settled confidentially.

Mr. Siddiqui regularly engages in PTAB proceedings, leveraging his prior experience as a patent examiner at the USPTO. He develops strategies for clients in Inter Partes Review (IPR), Ex Parte Reexamination, and Covered Business Method (CBM) review proceedings. He has served as lead counsel for major clients such as Maxell, Google, American Airlines, and United Airlines in various IPR, reexamination, and CBM review matters, and has been credited with securing a rare rehearing in an AIA Review.

Before joining Mayer Brown, where he became a Partner in January 2013, Mr. Siddiqui was an attorney at Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett and Dunner LLP, where he represented clients such as HTC against Apple in patent litigation. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston.
