Robin Brewer

Robin Brewer is a highly experienced patent litigator focusing on complex technology disputes, with a practice spanning federal courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Her technical background, including an AB/BE in engineering sciences from Dartmouth and a master's equivalent in mechanical engineering, underpins her work across a broad range of technologies, such as network security, digital wallets, video and audio compression, LCD screens, and carburetors.

Throughout her career, Ms. Brewer has primarily represented operating companies, often defending them against allegations of patent infringement. Her tracked appearances show her representing Amazon.com, Inc. as a plaintiff, which aligns with defending an operating company potentially seeking declaratory judgment in response to infringement assertions. She has a proven track record in securing favorable legal victories for technology clients, with some of her successes at the ITC becoming regularly cited precedent.

Most notably, Ms. Brewer was involved in the global patent litigation between Amazon.com, Inc. and Nokia Technologies Oy. These disputes, which covered multimedia patents related to video compression and streaming technologies (including H.264/H.265 standards), were initiated by Nokia against Amazon across multiple jurisdictions. The extensive litigation culminated in a confidential settlement in March 2025, after Amazon faced adverse rulings in Germany and at the ITC. Ms. Brewer also handles inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, as demonstrated by her involvement in IPRs filed by Amazon against Nokia.

Formerly a partner at Perkins Coie, Ms. Brewer transitioned in April 2026 with a 15-lawyer IP litigation team to Sheppard Mullin, where she now serves as a partner and co-leads the firm's ITC practice. She earned her law degree from George Washington University and is admitted to practice in California.
