Michael L. Lindinger

Michael L. Lindinger is a Partner in Mayer Brown's Intellectual Property practice, focusing on complex patent litigation in federal district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office. His practice spans a broad range of technologies, including consumer goods, electrical arts, mechanical arts, and business methods. He previously worked as a patent examiner at the USPTO, examining patent applications in circuit board and time-keeping technologies.

Lindinger's case experience demonstrates a balanced practice representing both plaintiffs and defendants. While his firm, Mayer Brown, has been noted for its defense-side patent work, Lindinger's individual caseload includes both plaintiff (2) and defendant (1) representations in tracked cases. This includes serving as lead counsel for defendant Oura Health Oy in Zepp Inc. et al. v. Oura Health Oy. He also represented plaintiff Maxell, Ltd. in Maxell, Ltd. v. Lenovo Group Ltd. et al.

A significant outcome in his career includes assisting in securing a $43.3 million jury verdict for Maxell, Ltd. in Maxell, Ltd. v. ZTE USA LLC, where the jury found willful infringement of seven patents related to digital image processing, GPS navigation, cellular transmission, and audio processing. He also contributed to a $111.7 million jury verdict for Maxell against Samsung for willful infringement of three patents covering smart device technologies. Additionally, he successfully defended a major ATM manufacturer, obtaining a favorable Markman ruling that led to a concession of non-infringement and invalidation of several asserted claims, which was affirmed by the Federal Circuit.

Lindinger is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Illinois at Chicago (formerly The John Marshall Law School) in 2007, and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.
