Jordan M. Rossen

Jordan M. Rossen is a highly experienced patent litigator with a strong focus on challenging patent validity, primarily within the context of non-practicing entity (NPE) assertions. As Senior Patent Counsel at Unified Patents, LLC, he exclusively operates on the plaintiff side in patent validity challenges, as evidenced by 25 tracked appearances on the plaintiff side and none on the defendant side. Unified Patents' mission is to deter unsubstantiated or invalid patent assertions and improve patent quality, often by challenging NPE-owned patents through inter partes reviews (IPRs).

Mr. Rossen's practice spans a broad array of technology areas, including computer hardware and software, data processing, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and material science, energy and geosciences, vehicle telematics, and semiconductors. His case involvement includes matters against entities such as Advanced Integrated Circuit Process LLC, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc., SK Hynix, Inc., Sonos, Inc., and Intellectual Ventures II LLC. He has contributed to Unified Patents' efforts in challenging notorious NPEs.

A significant portion of Mr. Rossen's expertise lies in post-grant proceedings. He prepares and litigates cases before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) for Unified Patents, having previously represented clients before the PTAB, International Trade Commission (ITC), district courts, and the Federal Circuit. His PTAB experience is further highlighted by his involvement in cases such as Unified Patents PTAB Data v. Headwater Research LLC and his participation in webinars discussing PTAB strategies. Notable successes for Unified Patents, which Mr. Rossen is part of, include Federal Circuit affirmations of PTAB unpatentability findings, such as in cases involving Intellectual Ventures and a "smart grid" patent against Causam Enterprises.

Before joining Unified Patents in October 2019, Mr. Rossen honed his intellectual property litigation skills for eleven years at Ropes & Gray and Paul Hastings in Washington, D.C. He holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO (Reg. No. 74,064).
