Company profile

Company overview. SpaceTime3D, Inc. is a privately held software and patent-holding company based in New York. It was founded around 1999 by Edward ("Eddie") Bakhash, who served as CEO; early press described it as a small, self-funded team. No current employee count, revenue, or valuation figures are publicly available, and the company has no public ticker or disclosed parent.

Products / operations. SpaceTime3D originally developed "SpaceTime," a Windows 3D web browser first released in public beta on June 4, 2007. The browser displayed web pages and search results (Google, Yahoo, Flickr, eBay) as textured slabs in a simulated 3D space, with a timeline for history and tabbed browsing, and let users toggle between 3D and 2D views. It was showcased at CES 2008 and received mixed press reviews, but the product appears to have been discontinued around 2010. The company's remaining value is its patent portfolio, primarily U.S. Patent Nos. 8,881,048, 9,304,654, and 9,696,868, which cover 3D graphical user interfaces for navigating webpages and applications and switching between 3D and 2D displays. Unified Patents categorizes SpaceTime3D as an "NPE (Small Company)" in PTAB proceedings, though the Stanford NPE Litigation Database lists it as a product company — reflecting its transition from operating company to patent monetizer.

Litigation posture. SpaceTime3D is an active two-way litigant: it filed the three district-court actions in the tracked data (against Samsung in E.D. Tex. in 2019, and against Apple in W.D. Tex.–Waco and LG in E.D. Tex., both in 2022), while six PTAB petitions filed by Apple, Google, LG, and Samsung target its patents. Cases were filed in the plaintiff-friendly Eastern District of Texas and Waco division of the Western District of Texas. Counsel Susman Godfrey has stated the Samsung and LG cases settled favorably.

Notable context. In August 2026, the Federal Circuit issued two nonprecedential rulings: it affirmed PTAB findings that claims 14–18 of the '048 patent and all challenged claims of the '654 and '868 patents were obvious, while upholding claims 1–13 of the '048 patent. The asserted technology concerns iOS app-switcher and Safari tab-view interfaces.
