Oxford Gene Technology Limited (OGT)
Oxford Gene Technology Ltd. (commonly "OGT") is a UK molecular-genetics company headquartered in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, incorporated in April 1995 and founded by Professor Sir Edwin Southern as a University of Oxford spin-out. It is a private, wholly owned subsidiary of Sysmex Corporation (Kobe, Japan; TSE: 6869), which acquired OGT in June 2017 to enter the cytogenetics market. Headcount is roughly 100–250 employees; sales were £19.7 million in FY2016 (per Sysmex) and the UK operations entity reported about £10.3 million revenue for the year ended March 2025 (Tracxn), with no public market cap since it is not listed.
OGT is an operating company that develops, manufactures, and sells diagnostic and research reagents for genetic analysis. Its main product lines are Cytocell fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) probes (CE-marked IVD), CytoSure array-CGH microarrays and constitutional NGS panels for cytogenetics and rare disease, and SureSeq next-generation sequencing panels for hematological and solid-tumor cancer research, plus the Interpret data-analysis software and custom design services (myProbes, myPanel). It also historically licensed foundational DNA-microarray patents. OGT acquired Cytocell Ltd (2014) and Sense Proteomic (2009).
Litigation posture: OGT is an operating company, not a non-practicing entity, and its two tracked US cases both stem from a single 1999 dispute with Affymetrix — one brought by OGT as plaintiff in the District of Delaware (June 4, 1999) and one where OGT appeared as defendant in the Northern District of California (June 17, 1999). Notable context: The cases concerned OGT's foundational "Southern patents" for DNA microarrays (US 5,700,637 and EP 0 373 203).
