Mirror Worlds sued Facebook/Meta asserting 6,006,227, 7,865,538, and 8,255,439 over News Feed, Timeline, and Activity Log. The district court granted summary judgment of non-infringement; after a Federal Circuit reversal and remand, the district court again granted non-infringement, and the Federal Circuit affirmed on December 4, 2024.
Mirror Worlds Technologies, LLC sued Facebook, Inc. (now Meta Platforms, Inc.) in S.D.N.Y. alleging that News Feed, Timeline, and Activity Log features infringed U.S. Patents 6,006,227, 7,865,538, and 8,255,439. The district court granted summary judgment of non-infringement and dismissed on March 7, 2022; the Federal Circuit affirmed on December 4, 2024.
Severed from the earlier Mirror Worlds action, this case asserted the '227 patent against Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Microsoft, and Best Buy. It was dismissed on November 9, 2015, with Microsoft reportedly settling for $4.65 million.
Mirror Worlds Technologies sued Apple and other defendants; after severance, Apple settled by paying $25 million for a fully paid-up, non-exclusive license to the '227 patent, announced July 8, 2016.
Second appeal in the Meta case; the Federal Circuit affirmed the district court's summary judgment of non-infringement, declining to reach invalidity because the patents had expired.
