The company is associated with Dr. Dieter Suess, a professor in the Physics of Functional Materials group at the University of Vienna, who has stated he formed it in 2020 to license his patents. Its registered business purpose is the development, acquisition, and exploitation of technologies for magnetic recording systems. Litigation posture. Pure plaintiff: 2 tracked cases, both as plaintiff, zero as defendant. Both tracked suits target Western Digital — one in W.D. Tex., Waco Division (2022-06-13) and one in C.D. Cal., Santa Ana (2022-08-26). The company's pattern is to sue downstream HDD manufacturers rather than the media suppliers (e.g., Resonac) whose films are accused.
Notable context. In July 2024 a C.D. Cal. jury awarded roughly $262.4M against Western Digital; the court added about $117M prejudgment interest in August 2024.
