Hitachi Rail GTS USA Inc. — formerly Ground Transportation Systems USA, Inc., and before that Thales Transport & Security, Inc. — is the US rail-signalling and train-control subsidiary of Hitachi Rail. Public contract records show the two name changes: Thales Transport & Security, Inc. became Ground Transportation Systems USA, Inc. on 11 April 2022, and Hitachi Rail GTS USA Inc. on 3 June 2024. Its listed address is 99 Park Avenue, Suite 1120, New York, NY. It is a subsidiary of Hitachi Rail Limited (London), itself part of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501); it is not separately traded.
Ownership/size context. Hitachi Rail closed its €1,660m acquisition of Thales' Ground Transportation Systems business on 31 May 2024, adding ~9,000 employees for a global total of ~24,000 and pro-forma FY23 combined revenues of ~€7.3bn (≈US$7.9bn). Those figures are for Hitachi Rail globally; separate revenue or headcount for the US legal entity is not disclosed.
Products / operations. The company is an operating rail-systems supplier, not an NPE. Its offerings cover automatic train control and signalling — CBTC urban rail signalling, mainline digital signalling, integrated communication and supervision systems, and fare-collection/ticketing systems — plus long-term maintenance of installed systems. Procurement records identify it as OEM for San Francisco MTA's Central Subway Advanced Train Control System and as sole-source ATC maintenance provider for Jacksonville's Skyway. The North American business carries Union Switch & Signal / Ansaldo STS heritage.
Litigation posture. The single tracked matter, Siemens Mobility, Inc. et al. v. Metrom Rail, LLC (USPTO PTAB, filed 13 Jan 2023 — IPR2023-00470 and related petitions), shows the company as a joint IPR petitioner, alongside Siemens Mobility, Humatics and Piper Networks, challenging Metrom Rail's ultra-wideband train collision-avoidance patents (U.S. 8,812,227 and 9,043,131). Metrom is an operating competitor, not an NPE. The IPRs paralleled district court litigation Metrom filed against Siemens Mobility, Thales Transport & Security, Thales USA and this entity, originally in the District of Delaware and later transferred and severed to the Southern District of New York. The company's lone tracked appearance is therefore defensive counter-assertion within a competitor signalling dispute, not NPE activity.
