Maxell sued Samsung for infringement of multiple patents, including U.S. 11,017,815. A May 2025 jury found willful infringement of '815 claims 1, 21, and 24 and awarded $111,720,099 total, but the court later granted JMOL of non-infringement for the three tried patents, overturning the verdict; Maxell appealed.
Maxell asserted seven patents, including US 11,223,757, against Samsung. The court granted summary judgment of non-infringement on the '757 and '590 patents pre-trial; after a jury verdict on other patents, the district court granted Samsung JMOL, and Maxell appealed and sought a stay pending related PTAB proceedings.
