Company profile

LG Display Co., Ltd. (short name "LG Display"; KRX: 034220; NYSE ADR: LPL) is a South Korean display-panel manufacturer headquartered at LG Twin Towers, 128 Yeoui-daero, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It was incorporated in February 1985, listed on the Korea Exchange in 2004, and was known as LG.Philips LCD until its 2008 renaming. It is a public company, not a subsidiary, though LG Electronics Inc. is its largest shareholder at roughly 36.7% of common stock. Its 2025 annual report (Form 20-F/6-K) reports revenue of about ₩25.81 trillion (~$18B), roughly 24,000–25,000 employees, and R&D spending near 8% of sales.

Operations. LG Display develops, manufactures and sells TFT-LCD and OLED panels and related products. Product lines include OLED and LCD panels for televisions, smartphones and other mobile devices, IT products (monitors, notebooks, tablets), and automotive displays, sold mainly to OEMs and system integrators. Manufacturing fabs are in Gumi and Paju (Korea) and China, with module assembly in Korea, China and Vietnam. The company has been shifting to an OLED-centric mix (OLED was 61% of 2025 revenue) and completed the sale of its Chinese LCD TV panel subsidiaries to TCL CSOT in April 2025, exiting the LCD TV panel business. It holds display IP through subsidiaries such as Unified Innovative Technology, LLC and Global OLED Technology, LLC.

Litigation posture. The tracked data shows LG Display as a defendant in one case and a plaintiff in none — the profile of an operating company defending against patent assertions, not an NPE. The single tracked matter is Delaware Display Group LLC v. LG Display Co., filed 2015-12-30 in the District of Delaware (D. Del. is plaintiff-friendly but less so than the Eastern District of Texas).

Context. Delaware Display Group LLC is an Acacia Research-affiliated NPE asserting acquired LCD/backlight patents; the December 2015 complaint named LG Display alongside LG Electronics entities and asserted patents including U.S. 7,384,177, 7,404,660 and 7,434,973 — each under instituted inter partes review petitions filed by LG entities. LG Display filed its own IPRs against DDG patents, including U.S. 7,914,196.
