Company overview. Flexiworld Technologies, Inc. ("Flexiworld") is a privately held, founder-led company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Portland, Oregon (3439 NE Sandy Blvd., Suite 267). Founder William Ho Chang leads the company, which PitchBook lists as formerly VC-backed with roughly $1.5M raised; it is not publicly traded and has no corporate parent. Public estimates put it at about 5 employees and roughly $3M in annual revenue, though these figures are estimates (Kona Equity) and unverified by the company.
Products / operations. Flexiworld was founded to develop "FlexiCore," a wireless-software infrastructure enabling mobile devices to print to any brand of printer, drive wireless presentations, transfer data, and make VoIP calls. Today it operates essentially as a patent-licensing company: in its 2022 litigation against Lexmark, Flexiworld stated it "has not made, offered for sale, sold, or imported a product that practices any of the Patents-in-Suit." Its portfolio is roughly 72 granted U.S. patents (per PitchBook) covering wireless printing, driverless output, device discovery, and wireless streaming of digital content to TVs, speakers, and other output devices.
Patent-litigation posture. Flexiworld is a pure plaintiff/NPE: all three tracked cases list it as plaintiff (3) and none as defendant, and every one was filed in the Eastern District of Texas (Marshall Division) before Judge Rodney Gilstrap — a venue widely regarded as plaintiff-friendly. Unified Patents, RPX, and Stanford's NPE Litigation Database all characterize Flexiworld as a non-practicing entity. RPX describes an ongoing campaign begun around June 2020 in which Flexiworld has asserted roughly 40 wireless-connectivity and streaming patents against consumer-electronics and printer OEMs.
Notable cases. The tracked matters are Flexiworld v. LG Electronics (filed Sept. 18, 2025, asserting six patents covering smart TVs, soundbars, and remotes; a settlement notice was filed in March 2026) and Flexiworld v. Sony Corporation (filed Dec. 19, 2023; dismissed with prejudice in 2024). Related untracked suits include actions against TCL (March 2026), Roku, Hisense, HP, Xerox, Brother, and Lexmark. Unified Patents has challenged several Flexiworld patents; the PTAB upheld claims of U.S. Patent 9,836,257 in IPR2022-00775, while other patents faced reexamination rejections.
Lexmark petitioned for inter partes review of the '402 patent. The PTAB denied institution on November 17, 2023, so no merits finding on validity was made.
Roku filed an IPR petition against the '257 patent. The proceeding was terminated pre-institution pursuant to a joint motion based on the parties' Patent License Agreement, which also resolved the W.D. Tex. litigation.
Unified Patents petitioned for inter partes review of claims 27 and 28 of the '257 patent. The PTAB granted institution, then determined Unified Patents failed to prove the challenged claims unpatentable and dismissed the patent owner's contingent motion to amend.
