Company profile

BP America Production Company ("BP America Production") is an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of BP p.l.c., the UK-headquartered integrated energy major (LSE/NYSE: BP). BP America Production maintains its principal office at 501 Westlake Park Blvd, Houston, Texas — BP's US headquarters. The Delaware corporation was established in 1961 and was known as Amoco Production Company (itself renamed from Pan American Petroleum Corporation in 1971) until it changed its name to BP America Production Company effective December 31, 2001, when BP consolidated its onshore Lower 48 upstream assets, including ARCO and Vastar Resources properties, into the entity. Parent-level scale, per BP's 2024 annual report and financial data providers: roughly 91,000–100,500 employees worldwide and about $189 billion in 2024 revenue. BP America Production does not publish standalone financials or headcount.

Operations. The company is an oil and gas exploration and production entity, holding and operating onshore wells and leases across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Wyoming and Colorado, dating back to legacy Amoco and ARCO acreage. It is a real operating producer, not a shell. BP's US onshore business is now largely conducted under the bpx energy brand, and some legacy BP America Production properties have been divested (PitchBook records the sale of its Oklahoma properties to Lime Rock Resources in 2019).

Litigation posture. In the tracked data, BP America Production appears once — as a defendant only (0 plaintiff, 1 defendant) — consistent with an operating company targeted in litigation rather than an asserted-patent holder. The sole tracked case is SIPCO, LLC et al. v. Emerson Electric Co. et al., No. 6:15-cv-00907, filed October 16, 2015 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.

Context. SIPCO, LLC is a well-known patent assertion entity whose portfolio covers wireless mesh networking and remote monitoring/control (the patents derived in part from inventor Thomas D. Petite). In that case SIPCO sued Emerson's process-automation entities over Emerson Smart Wireless gateways, Rosemount wireless transmitters and related products, and named BP entities as defendants/end users of the accused equipment. BP America Production's answer in the case confirmed its status as an indirect wholly owned BP p.l.c. subsidiary. The Tyler venue is a traditional plaintiff-friendly forum for such assertions; the case is a customer/user-side NPE suit, not a competitor dispute.
