Theodore W. Chandler

Theodore W. Chandler is an accomplished patent litigator with extensive experience spanning over two decades, currently serving as a Partner at Baker Botts. His practice focuses broadly on intellectual property disputes, including patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret litigation. Mr. Chandler's technical proficiency is demonstrated through his work on cases involving a diverse range of technologies, notably electronics, software, and medical devices. Specific areas of his patent litigation experience include memory module architectures (DDR3, DDR4, HBM), semiconductor photodetectors such as CMOS image sensors and Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors, mobile communication standards (2G, 3G), digital rights management, and gaming application technologies.

Throughout his career, Mr. Chandler has demonstrated versatility in representing both patent owners and accused infringers. In his role as Appellate Counsel for Samsung against Netlist, Inc., he was involved in litigation where Netlist secured substantial jury verdicts of $118 million and $303.15 million for patent infringement related to memory modules. He also contributed to the defense of Supercell Oy, a mobile gaming company, in patent litigation where GREE, Inc. secured significant jury awards totaling over $100 million for infringement of mobile gaming patents. Beyond district court litigation, Mr. Chandler is registered to practice before the Patent Office and regularly handles challenges to patent validity in reexamination and IPR proceedings, paralleling ongoing litigation.

Mr. Chandler is admitted to the State Bar of California. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2000, following a B.S.E. in Computer Science, summa cum laude, from Princeton University in 1997.
