T. Damario

Thomas M. DaMario is a Senior Managing Associate at Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff LLP, where he focuses his practice on complex intellectual property litigation and transactions, particularly patent infringement and trademark cases across district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). His technical expertise spans Internet technologies, wireless and cellular communications, semiconductor chip design and fabrication, power tools, computer and networking systems, and mechanical devices. With a background in electrical engineering, he previously contributed to the development of industry standards in cybersecurity, cryptography, access control, and intrusion detection systems at a leading standards organization.

In his district court practice, Mr. DaMario has appeared on the plaintiff side in tracked patent litigation. He is also actively involved in PTAB proceedings, regularly representing patent owners in inter partes reviews (IPRs), such as in IPR2024-01357, IPR2025-00260, IPR2025-01218, IPR2025-01219, and IPR2025-01220. His work at Benesch, an Am Law 200 firm, also includes advising on intellectual property aspects of strategic transactions and providing analyses for landscape, freedom-to-operate, and patentability opinions.

Mr. DaMario earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law in 2017, where he received a Certificate in Patent Law. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign, obtained in 2008, and is a licensed Professional Engineer. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
