Steven David Moore

Steven D. Moore is a highly experienced patent litigator with a focus on intellectually property and complex commercial litigation. His practice spans a diverse range of technology areas, including mobile gaming applications, robotic pool cleaners, social network technology, biopharma and chemical innovations, as well as emerging fields such as cryptocurrency, fintech, and artificial intelligence. He is recognized for his extensive jury trial experience and for frequently arguing before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, including en banc proceedings.

Mr. Moore exhibits versatility in his practice, representing both intellectual property owners (plaintiffs) and companies defending against patent, trade secret, and unfair competition claims. This is reflected in his career, which includes appearances on both the plaintiff and defendant sides of patent disputes. He is currently a Partner and serves as Co-Head of the Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation practice at Vinson & Elkins LLP, having joined the firm in late 2025. Prior to this, he was a Partner and Co-Chair of the Patent Litigation Team at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP for over two decades.

Among his notable achievements, Mr. Moore served as lead counsel for GREE, Inc. in its patent litigation against Supercell Oy, securing jury verdicts totaling over $100 million for willful infringement of patents related to mobile gaming applications. He also successfully defended Quora Inc. against patent infringement claims in NetSoc LLC v. Quora Inc., obtaining a Federal Circuit affirmance of invalidity based on patent-ineligible subject matter. His work includes representing Zodiac Pool Systems LLC as a defendant in matters involving robotic pool cleaners, and Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings in Federal Circuit appeals related to inter partes reviews concerning non-invasive prenatal genetic testing.

Mr. Moore is deeply experienced in post-grant proceedings, regularly appearing before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and handling related appeals at the Federal Circuit. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Duke University School of Law and an A.B. in Economics, cum laude, from Duke University. He is admitted to practice in California, Georgia, and North Carolina.
