Ryan K. Walsh

Ryan K. Walsh is a highly experienced trial lawyer at Jones Day, where he serves as a co-leader of the firm's global Intellectual Property litigation practice. He focuses on high-stakes technology litigation, representing clients across a broad spectrum of industries. His technical proficiencies span wireless communications, lithium-ion batteries, medical devices, live cell analysis, gaming, advanced polymers, Internet of Things, cable television, interactive internet web pages, printer/copier technology, wireless sensor networks, and glucose monitoring. His practice also includes significant work in the life sciences sector, exemplified by his role in pharmaceutical patent disputes.

Walsh exhibits a balanced practice, adeptly representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement actions. While he regularly defends clients against claims brought by competitors and nonpracticing entities, he also has extensive experience enforcing clients' intellectual property rights. He also obtained a complete reversal of a $125 million patent-infringement judgment for Medtronic at the Federal Circuit. Further, he achieved Federal Circuit affirmances of summary judgment wins for Ricoh USA, Inc. in patent disputes over office and production printer technology.

Walsh’s practice extends to various forums, including the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Federal Circuit, indicating experience across administrative tribunals relevant to patent disputes. He is admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Second, and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Georgia and Eastern District of Texas. He earned his J.D. magna cum laude from The University of Georgia in 1999 and his B.A. from Brown University in 1993.
