Richard A. Crudo

Richard A. Crudo is a Director in the Electronics and Trial & Appellate Practice Groups at Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, with over a decade of experience litigating intellectual property cases. His practice encompasses a broad range of technologies, including computer software and hardware, medical devices, biotech, financial services, and smartphone industries. He also has a particular interest in evolving patent and copyright issues related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Crudo has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent disputes. For example, he represented Roku, Inc. as a defendant in VideoLabs, Inc. v. Roku, Inc., a case involving seven patents related to video coding, wireless content distribution, and device provisioning, which was ultimately dismissed with prejudice. On the plaintiff side, he was counsel of record for Bank of America, N.A. in Bank of America, N.A. et al. v. Intellectual Ventures I LLC, and his prior firm experience includes representing petitioners in CBM proceedings where finance and Internet-related patents asserted by Intellectual Ventures were invalidated under § 101.

His practice also features extensive involvement in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where he represents both petitioners and patent owners. He has drafted petitions, conducted depositions, and argued at oral hearings in these proceedings, including IPRs related to the VideoLabs v. Roku litigation and CBMs in the Bank of America v. Intellectual Ventures matter.

Crudo is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York, as well as before the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He earned his J.D. with honors from The George Washington University Law School, an M.S. in Physics from the University of Connecticut, and a B.S. in Physics, magna cum laude, from The University of Arizona.
