Patrick R. Colsher

Patrick R. Colsher is a Partner at Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP, specializing in intellectual property and complex commercial litigation, with a particular focus on patent and trade secret disputes. He joined the firm in April 2023, having previously been a Counsel and Senior Associate in IP Litigation at Shearman & Sterling LLP from November 2015 to April 2023, and earlier an Associate at Kenyon & Kenyon LLP and Ward & Zinna. His technical background includes electrical and biomedical engineering, which informs his practice across a range of technologies such as NFC payment systems, streaming media, semiconductor technology, LED manufacturing, and various software and consumer electronics.

Colsher maintains a balanced patent litigation practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in district court and appearing as lead counsel for both petitioners and patent owners in post-grant proceedings. His tracked case appearances are evenly split, with five on the plaintiff side and five on the defendant side.

His notable case experience includes representing CardWare Inc. in patent infringement lawsuits against major technology companies like Google LLC and Apple Inc. involving NFC payment technology. He also achieved a summary judgment of non-infringement for Victoria's Secret, affirmed by the Federal Circuit, in a case concerning dynamically-generated applet technology. For DENSO, he secured a voluntary dismissal from the plaintiff after demonstrating non-infringement in a semiconductor technology patent dispute. Colsher also represented Bath & Body Works, obtaining a jury verdict of invalidity due to an on-sale bar, which was affirmed on appeal by the Federal Circuit. Additionally, he was involved in cases for Spotify, Netflix, and Hulu, where the Federal Circuit ultimately found all asserted patent claims challenged at the Patent Office to be invalid.

Colsher possesses significant experience in inter partes review (IPR) and post-grant review (PGR) proceedings before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), having handled nearly 100 such trials. In 2025, he achieved a perfect record in over 20 IPR proceedings, successfully denying petitions when representing patent owners and securing institution and unpatentability decisions when representing petitioners. He has been recognized as a Top 100 Lawyer in Patexia's 2026 Patent Litigation Report and 2025 PTAB Litigation Intelligence Report.

Colsher earned his J.D., cum laude, from New York Law School in 2010 and holds two B.S.E. degrees, in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, from Duke University. He is admitted to practice in New York, California, and New Jersey, before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO.
