Molly R. Grammel

Molly R. Grammel is a partner in Goodwin Procter's Intellectual Property Litigation practice and a member of the firm's Life Sciences Disputes group, based in Boston. She specializes in patent litigation involving cutting-edge technologies, with a particular focus on biologic and biosimilar drugs, medical devices, software products, and regulated consumer goods. Her practice also encompasses intellectual property disputes related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Ms. Grammel maintains a versatile practice, representing both patent owners and defendants in high-stakes intellectual property and competition litigation. Her experience includes defending clients such as Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Sandoz Inc. against Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. Additionally, she has successfully represented patent owners in infringement actions, as demonstrated by a case for Veracode, Inc., which resulted in a judgment of willful infringement and a permanent injunction with affirmed damages. She was also counsel for Teva Pharmaceuticals International GmbH in a patent dispute against Eli Lilly and Company, securing a $176.5 million damages verdict that was upheld on appeal to the Federal Circuit.

Ms. Grammel possesses extensive federal trial experience, routinely examining lead witnesses and presenting evidence and arguments before juries and judges across the country. She also has significant experience representing clients in appeals to Federal Circuit Courts and in post-grant challenges, including inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Her noteworthy engagements include securing complete victories for clients like Breeze Smoke and Samsung in International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations.

She earned her B.A. in English literature magna cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010 and her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2013. She is a member of the Boston Bar Association and the IP Section of the Federal Bar Association.
