Mitch Verboncoeur

Mitch Verboncoeur is a Principal in McKool Smith's Austin office, focusing his practice on high-technology, intellectual property, and commercial litigation. His work spans technology areas such as cable television, video coding, RF hardware, cellular technologies, and wireless technology. While his tracked appearances include two plaintiff-side representations, his firm profile indicates experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in federal district courts, federal circuit courts, and the Supreme Court.

Verboncoeur has served as lead counsel for Nokia in patent infringement actions including Nokia v. HP, Inc. et al. and Nokia Technologies Oy v. Acer Inc. He was also part of the McKool Smith team that secured a Federal Circuit victory for ParkerVision against Qualcomm in September 2024, involving wireless technology, which vacated a summary judgment of non-infringement and reversed the exclusion of expert testimony. Additionally, he assisted Ericsson in reaching a settlement with Lenovo in a global patent licensing dispute, which resolved all pending litigation and administrative proceedings, including before the USITC. His experience also includes securing exclusion orders for clients from the International Trade Commission and implementing multi-venue litigation strategies, notably representing Nokia Technologies in a patent infringement action against Apple Inc. in the ITC that resulted in a confidential settlement in 2017.

Verboncoeur possesses experience in Inter Partes Review (IPR) and other post-grant proceedings, having been listed as counsel for Patent Owner Nokia Technologies Oy in various IPR proceedings. He is admitted to practice in Texas and the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2017 and a B.A. summa cum laude in Physics and Philosophy from Rollins College in 2014.
