Michael W. Johnson

Michael W. Johnson is a patent litigation attorney with a practice primarily focused on representing defendants in complex patent disputes. His experience spans a range of technologies, with a notable specialization in the life sciences sector.

Mr. Johnson is currently a partner at Gemini Law, having joined the firm in April 2025. Before joining Gemini Law, he was an IP partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP from 2006 to 2025, and began his legal career at Kenyon & Kenyon, where he worked from 2000 to 2006. During his time at Fish & Richardson, he served as counsel for BOE Technology Group Co. in the significant Samsung Display Co., Ltd. v. BOE Technology Group Co. litigation. This multi-year dispute involved patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation claims related to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technology, which ultimately settled in November 2025.

In his current practice, Mr. Johnson frequently handles patent litigation, counseling, and IP strategy for major life sciences companies, with a particular emphasis on pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, and industrial chemicals. His notable case experience includes representing Celltrion against Amgen in a district court litigation concerning biosimilar products, and successfully representing Hospira in an inter partes review (IPR) proceeding concerning a patent on Protein A affinity chromatography. He also represented La Jolla in Hatch-Waxman litigation related to its Giapreza product, which resulted in a favorable settlement.

Mr. Johnson is admitted to practice in New York, before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
