Mehran Arjomand

Mehran Arjomand is a Partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he co-chairs the firm's Post-Grant Strategy + Disputes Group and chairs its Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) Practice. His practice spans a broad range of technology areas, including semiconductors, computer software and hardware, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), and life sciences. He handles complex patent disputes across various forums and jurisdictions, often focusing on advanced technologies such as display systems, biometric authentication, and network analytics.

Mr. Arjomand demonstrates versatility in patent litigation, representing both patent owners and challengers. His experience includes working on behalf of plaintiffs, such as Apple Inc. in Apple Inc. v. Vampire Labs LLC, and Jumio Corporation in Jumio Corporation v. FaceTec, Inc. [case list]. He also serves as lead counsel for defendants, as seen in PICTIVA DISPLAYS INTERNATIONAL LTD. v. SAMSUNG DISPLAY CO., LTD. et al. [case list] This balanced representation extends to his extensive PTAB practice, where he initiates post-grant proceedings for petitioners and defends patent owners.

A significant portion of Mr. Arjomand's practice is dedicated to post-grant proceedings before the PTAB, having overseen hundreds of inter partes reviews (IPRs) and ex parte reexaminations. He has secured numerous favorable outcomes for clients, including persuading the PTAB that 62 asserted patent claims against lululemon by Nike were unpatentable, successfully invalidating many asserted claims for Xilinx in 16 IPR proceedings against Analog Devices, and obtaining complete victories for patent owners against IPR and PGR petitions. In the Jumio Corporation v. FaceTec, Inc. IPRs, while some petitions were instituted, the PTAB ultimately found certain challenged claims not unpatentable.

Mr. Arjomand is admitted to practice in California and is registered with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
