Lisa K. Nguyen

Lisa K. Nguyen is a highly accomplished patent litigation partner in the Intellectual Property practice at Paul Hastings, based in the firm's Palo Alto office. She focuses on representing cutting-edge technology companies in intellectual property disputes, particularly in litigation against non-practicing entities (NPEs). Her practice encompasses a broad range of technology areas, including software, internet and content delivery systems (such as "just-in-time distributed video caching" for social media platforms), wireless and antenna innovations, IoT devices, and medical devices, particularly those related to positive airway pressure therapy systems.

Ms. Nguyen demonstrates versatility by representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex multi-jurisdictional and multi-patent cases, as evidenced by an equal number of appearances on both sides. She possesses substantial experience handling matters before U.S. District Courts across the country, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). She is noted for her strategic approach, securing successful trial verdicts, summary judgment rulings, and dismissals at the pleading stage, including "walk aways" for defendants with no payment to plaintiffs.

Before joining Paul Hastings in March 2024 as part of a premier IP litigation team, Ms. Nguyen was a partner at Allen & Overy LLP. She has been recognized for her prowess in PTAB proceedings, being listed among the top 1% of Best Performing Attorneys in the PTAB by Patexia and among the Top 50 Women in the PTAB. Notably, she led a victorious effort for ResMed, invalidating 141 claims across seven patents through inter partes reviews (IPRs) against New York University. Her recent experience includes serving as Counsel for Petitioner in Meta Platforms Inc. v. Tir Technologies Ltd and as Lead Counsel in Unified Patents v. Cleveland Medical Devices Inc. She also acted as counsel for ResMed Inc. in Fractus, S.A. v. ResMed Inc. et al., filing a motion to dismiss in that antenna technology dispute.

Ms. Nguyen is admitted to the California Bar and registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office. She earned her J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School in 2006 and a B.A. in computer science and legal studies from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2003.
