Lear Jiang

Lear Jiang is a patent litigation attorney at Susman Godfrey L.L.P., primarily representing plaintiffs in complex technology disputes. His practice centers on enforcing patents in areas such as proximity-based digital key technology, secure authentication, biometric authentication, passwordless sign-in technology, and wireless communication standards, including Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and 7. All of his tracked appearances are on the plaintiff side, predominantly for non-practicing entity (NPE) Proxense, LLC, indicating a focus on prosecuting infringement claims.

Mr. Jiang has played a key role in Proxense, LLC's extensive patent enforcement campaign against major technology companies. In litigation against Samsung involving mobile payment technology, he helped secure favorable judgments for Proxense, including a summary judgment win on a key issue, leading to a settlement on the first day of jury selection. He currently represents Proxense in ongoing patent infringement suits against Apple, Google LLC, and Microsoft, involving passwordless sign-in and biometric authentication technologies, where his work has included defeating motions to transfer and achieving a 100% favorable ruling on patent claim construction. Although Proxense's cases against Google and Intel have settled, litigation against Apple and Microsoft remains active, often stayed pending outcomes of Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings.

His experience extends to the inter partes review (IPR) landscape, having been involved in the challenges to Proxense's patents by Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung at the PTAB. Notably, the USPTO's Central Reexamination Unit upheld the validity of a core Proxense patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,352,730) amidst these challenges.

Mr. Jiang is admitted to practice in California and New York. He earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2019 and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2015.
