Lance W. Shapiro

Lance W. Shapiro is a patent litigator specializing in complex intellectual property disputes for technology and electronics companies. His practice primarily involves defending operating companies, as indicated by his two tracked appearances exclusively on the defendant side.

Shapiro's expertise encompasses a diverse array of technological domains, including standard essential patents (SEPs) and FRAND licensing matters related to cellular telecommunications standards (4G/LTE, 5G), video coding standards (H.264, H.265, AV1), networking standards (G.709), consumer electronics, semiconductors, computer-based technologies, and display technologies (LCD). Shapiro earned his J.D. from Georgetown University in 2015, where he was recognized with the Leon Robbin Patent Award. He holds a degree in systems engineering with high distinction from the University of Virginia. During law school, he completed internships with the Honorable Kathleen M. O'Malley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is admitted to practice in New York.
