Katie Brockway

Katie Brockway is an Associate General Counsel of IP Litigation at Meta Platforms, Inc., where she manages both domestic and international patent and trade secret litigation matters for Meta's suite of applications and technologies. Her practice focuses on cutting-edge technology areas, including software, social media platforms, video streaming, networking/telecommunications, and smart eyewear/wearable AI, underpinned by her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.

Brockway primarily defends Meta Platforms, Inc. against patent infringement claims, appearing on the defendant side in three of her five tracked cases. However, she also actively protects Meta's intellectual property by initiating litigation on the plaintiff side in two recorded instances. This dual role highlights her comprehensive approach to IP protection and defense for a major technology company.

Her notable case work includes SitNet LLC v. Meta Platforms, Inc., where Meta successfully argued that one of SitNet's asserted patents was directed to an abstract idea, leading to its dismissal, while three other patents proceeded. She is also involved in Solos Technology Limited v. Meta Platforms, Inc. et al., a significant lawsuit concerning smart eyewear technologies and the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, where Solos Technology is seeking substantial damages and an injunction. Additionally, Brockway has overseen patent litigation related to video streaming services for Facebook and Instagram in Meta Platforms Inc. v. Tir Technologies Ltd.

Brockway is actively involved in post-grant proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Meta Platforms, Inc. has challenged several patents asserted against it in Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs), including those in the SitNet and Tir Technologies litigations, with Brockway signing a Power of Attorney for IPR petitions on behalf of Meta Platforms, Inc. as a Petitioner. Before joining Meta, she was an associate at Latham & Watkins LLP, specializing in patent and trade secret litigation. She is admitted to the State Bar of California and earned her Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis.
